puto bumbong

Christmas indeed came early as the Pinoy favorite puto bumbong is now being sold online. Know more about this online business HERE:

The Simbang Gabi and puto bumbong are two trademarks of Christmas in the Philippines. It's a centuries-long tradition to hear mass before dawn and have a taste of puto bumbong afterwards.

This year, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, people might have to go online to attend Simbang Gabi.

But don't worry if you can't physically go to church and have puto bumbong after mass, because as early as now, there's already an online seller that can help you satisfy your puto bumbong cravings.

Romilyn Santiago-Cinco from Pasig City has made the Pinoy favorite Christmas street food available online through her business, PutoBumbong Republic.

And they're not just selling ordinary puto bumbong, they have a version that has an irresistible twist: puto bumbong with leche flan or puto bumbong de leche!

In an interview with Unang Hirit host Love Añover, Romilyn revealed that on their best day they're able to produce over 1,000 pieces of puto bumbong de leche and sell each for only 45 pesos.

Some of the ingredients of their special puto bumbong are ground rice (giniling na bigas), glutinous rice (malagkit rice), and food coloring. Romilyn said they have secret ingredients that make their puto bumbong de leche tastier.

Once done steaming, they serve the puto bumbong with margarine, sugar, grated coconut (ginayat na niyog), cheese, sesame seeds, condensed milk and leche flan.

As a tip, she advised that if you're going to deliver the puto bumbong, put the grated coconut in a separate container as it spoils easily.

So, if you're planning to start an online food business during the quarantine period now that the BER months have begun, selling the Pinoy favorite Christmas food puto bumbong is something you should definitely consider.

Watch Love Añover and Romilyn talk about her online puto bumbong business in this episode of Unang Hirit.
