Are luxury items considered investments too? For Rabiya Mateo, they might not be so.
Model and beauty queen turned actress Rabiya Mateo may have already earned quite a lot from her modeling as well as from her acting projects since 2020 but instead of spending them on luxury items, she admitted to investing her hard-earned money in investments and businesses.
In an interview with Cata Tibayan on 'Chika Minute,' Rabiya said that people have been pushing her to buy branded items because she's an actor.
“Du'n pa rin ako sa mga simpleng bagay. Instead of buying branded items, mas in-invest ko po siya sa negosyo,” she said.
Because of this mindset, she was able to buy a 200 square-meter house for her mom in Iloilo. Asked why she gifted her mom a house, she has this to say, “Deserve niya po e. Ilang years din po siya nag sakripisyo for me, ilang years din siya hindi nakabili ng bagong damit kasi iba yung priority niya. Pero this time, it's my time na to give back. Ako naman, Ma.”
Rabiya recalled in a separate interview how she and her brother grew up in poverty and moved from house to house.
“Napalipat-lipat talaga kami because wala kaming address, wala kaming bahay. Nagre-rent lang kami, and 'pag hindi nakabayad ng rent, pinapalayas. Ganoon kahirap yung buhay namin,” she said.
She added that she had to balance her studies and work to make ends meet. Despite the hardships, Rabiya became more motivated with pursuing her dreams.
“Ngayon, mas inspired ako to do so much better kasi inaalay ko talaga ito sa mom ko. Like siya lang kasi mag-isang nag-taguyod sa amin, siya lang. Kaya deserve niya lahat,” she added.
What's next for Rabiya?
The TiktoClock host also expressed her desire to try out different projects. She mentioned wanting to go back into acting and be a part of a TV series this year. As for what role, Rabiya said she wanted to try being a 'kontrabida' for a change, and go back into doing an action series.
“Ginagalingan ko talaga. I'm doing acting workshops kahit wala pa as preparation kasi gusto ko, the moment na ibigay sa akin yung role, 100% ready na talaga ako,” she said.
