Rabiya Mateo is happy with her transition from beauty queen to action princess.
Former beauty queen and now Kapuso actress Rabiya Mateo has taken her role as an action star so seriously that she sees her battle scars as part of her journey.
Together with Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., she is cast in the upcoming weekly fantasy-action drama Agimat ng Agila: Season 2 which is set to premiere on January 29 at 7:15 p.m.
Rabiya is set to show the world where she plays the role of Filipino-Indian Interpol Agent Asha Raj who works in tandem with Major Gabriel Labrador played by the senator for a mission.
Even with no prior experience on doing stunts, the Ilongga stunner went head on with the actor-politician in performing their action scenes together.
In the recently held virtual mediacon for the series, Rabiya made sure to give justice to her role, hence she submitted herself to various trainings so she wouldn't be left behind especially when scenes are tough.
“I'm very happy, I enrolled myself in boxing classes. Aside from that, kahit private session with our action director Sir Erwin Tagle, we do that para ma-condition talaga 'yung mind ko, 'yung body ko na,” she said.
“Sobrang layo niya sa pagiging isang beauty queen, but I'm loving the challenge and the transition. I'm forever grateful sa opportunity,” she added.
Naturally, she obtained wounds and bruises from the intense fight scenes.
“I know masakit talaga siya. I know hindi siya biro. Nagkakasakitan talaga, nagkakapasaan din. I guess it's part of it. I have to be professional about it and magandang training ground siya,” she continued. “Sana in the future, marami pa akong mga action scenes, action series na magawa kasi nakikita ko ang sarili ko rito. If there's pain, there's power,” she added.
Her efforts have actually paid off because the senator praised her work.
“Ang galing sa stunts, matapang, at magaling umarte. 'Di pa nakapag-workshop nang ganoon katagal 'yan pero ang galing na niya umarte. She's very smart,” he said.
Other cast members include Sanya Lopez, Elizabeth Oropesa, Benjie Paras, Gardo Verzosa, Betong Sumaya, Kim de Leon, Lia Salvador, Sandro Muhlach and Shermaine Santiago.
