David Licauco sits down for an interview and opens up about his newfound fame after Maria Clara at Ibarra.

"Hindi pa rin ako makapaniwala na I'm in this position, same pa rin sa dati but of course now, mas nakikilala na ako. At mas marami na ang responsibilities ko. It's really a blessing to be in this position," he shared in his interview with Ogie Diaz.

In the said interview, the actor shared his journey from joining Mr. Chinatown 2014, to his attempts at being a commercial and fashion show model, to his meeting with Arnold Vegafria in 2017 that led to his entry into showbiz.

David admitted that he dealt with insecurity whenever he got rejected from auditions.

"Siguro iniisip ko noon that time, hindi ako ganun kagwapo, hindi rin ako ganun ka-confident. I came from a Chinese high school na very conservative. 'Yung confidence ko mababa, mahiyain ako. I didn't know how to present myself."

He added, "I never got a show because hindi naman ako passionate with my acting. Hindi rin ako marunong umarte...akala ko dati magpapogi ka lang, puwede ka na maging artista. I mean, showbiz is hard. It's not for everyone."

Ogie addressed the elephant in the room and asked David and his thoughts on his love team Barbie Forteza's relationship with actor Jak Roberto and if their on-screen tandem could be causing jealousy.

Ogie asked, "Si David ba hindi nahihiya, kasi si Jak Roberto, boyfriend ni Barbie?"

David answered, "I feel like naiintindihan naman 'yun ni Jak, 'yung situation kasi artista rin siya. Siguro kapag hindi siya artista, I'm pretty sure magseselos siya sa ganun kasi hindi niya alam kumbaga, [ang] situation sa industry."

He clarified, "I believe na mabait na tao si Jak, masipag siya. And I feel he is secure naman with himself. I don't think that's an issue. I mean, at least not for me. Hindi ko alam kung meron silang ganung klaseng issue.

Ogie asked, "Wala namang selosan sa part ni Jak?"

David refused to answer in behalf of Jak, and answered neutrally, "Hindi ako sure, hindi ko alam siyempre...sana wala."

As for his own relationship status, David revealed gaining fame actually made it harder for him to go out and date. "I feel like it's also hard to date," he said.

When asked if he's open to dating at the moment, "Hindi siguro muna. Pero siyempre kung makita mo na 'yung right one then sana ready siya sa life ko. Kasi it's really hard to understand 'yung showbiz eh. Especially kung non-showbiz 'yung girlfriend mo."

Though he looks charming and confident, David said he's actually a sensitive person. "Emotional kasi ako na tao talaga, iniisip siguro ng ibang tao na cheater ako. Pero actually, iyakin ako, mabilis akong maiyak when it comes to my family."

"Like imagine mo, nanood lang ako ng volleyball game ng brother and sister ko, nasa UAAP na sila tapos Ateneo sila. Nung nakita ko sila, lumabas ako ng arena humahagulgol ako. I have a soft spot for my siblings talaga, my little brother and little sister."

For now, David said he wants to focus on his career and saving up for his businesses, "Nilaan ko talaga 'yung mga kinita ko sa showbiz sa negosyo muna talaga."
