Despite the challenges the food industry is facing, some chefs and restaurants are generously lending their hands and kitchens to help Typhoon Ulysses victims.

The restaurant industry is no stranger to helping fellow Filipinos, especially during disasters and calamities. Despite experiencing sales dip due to the pandemic, food industry professionals are still ready to extend help.

Yesterday, November 12, chef Waya Araos-Wijangco of Gourmet Gypsy Art Café called for donations for typhoon victims. She opened her doors and was ready to accept food and non-food items.

“Check your pantry today. Don't order out, let's keep the riders off the roads today. Take stock of what you have and any excess please consider sending to evacuation centers. Gourmet Gypsy at 28 Maginhawa will open tomorrow to receive donations for food, clothing, beddings and hygiene kits,” she said in the post.

Donations poured in and as of today, her staff has been hard at work, cooking meals for evacuees.

Also yesterday, celebrity chef Myke “Tatung” Sarthou cooked up a big batch of lugaw that he distributed to typhoon victims in Marikina City. The owner of Talisay Garden Café and Pandan Asian Café also called for donations and volunteers.

Today, his relief team cooked another batch of comforting lugaw that helped feed evacuees at Kalumpang Elementary School in Marikina City. Tomorrow, his team will go to Hermogenes Bautista Elementary School, also in Marikina City, for another feeding program.

Meanwhile, Sarsa Kitchen + Bar is selling tote bags to help their own staff and their families that were affected by the typhoon.

“Totes for a cause. All proceeds from these totes will go to our staff and other families that were badly hit by Typhoon Ulysses. This will help them rebuild their homes and provide for their family's basic needs like food, shelter, clean water, dry clothes, medicine and masks,” the post said.

On the other hand, Saludos Fil + Mex Grillery also called for donations for the victims of typhoons Rolly and Ulysses. This time, the restaurant is giving an incentive to people who will donate. The restaurant is giving a free bottle of beer or a glass of wine for every donation.

In a Facebook post, Le Sucre Lab's kitchen staff is seen preparing packed meals for typhoon victims.

“Doing our part to help with relief efforts for those affected by typhoon Ulysses,” the post said.

Chef Jam Melchor also called for donations for the benefit of the Philippine Red Cross. He was met with overwhelming support.
