Kapuso actress Rita Daniela recently won The Jury Prize from the New York-based International Film Festival Manhattan and she's dedicating her win to her mom, who was recently declared cancer-free.
In an interview with Cata Tibayan in Chika Minute for 24 Oras, Rita admitted that she was speechless until now after winning the award for her film Huling Ulan sa Tag-Araw with Ken Chan.
“I really dedicated this film to my mom,” she said, adding that she's proud of her work.
Rita's mom, Rosanna Iringan, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019 and in 2021, she announced that her mom is cancer-free.
Rita admitted that it still hasn't sunk in that she won the Jury Prize, expressing how humbling it is to have won.
“It's humbling, the awards, most especially this award that I got from Manhattan,” she added.
She said, however, that the best and “most beautiful” award she will receive is to be a mom.
“This is something that hindi ito makukuha sa'kin, kahit sino. Hindi ito mapapalitan,” she said.
Last June 18, Rita revealed that she's pregnant with her first child with non-showbiz boyfriend. On September 18, Rita revealed on All-Out Sundays that she will have a baby boy that she'll be naming Juan “Uno” Rafael.
The International Film Festival Manhattan 2022 held its awarding ceremony last Oct. 13 at the Kalayaan Hall Philippine Center in New York, USA.
The film Huling Ulan sa Tag-Araw is a romantic comedy-drama film by Louie Ignacio and stars Rita as Luisa, a bar singer, and Kapuso star Ken Chan as Luis, a seminarian who is given time to think about continuing on becoming a priest.
Rita first received an honorable mention from the international film festival for her performance in the 2020 movie In The Name of the Mother back in 2021 before she won the Jury Prize this year. She was also running for the Best Actress in a Feature Film award which was won by her co-star Snooky Serna.
