Rocco Nacino reveals his wife Melissa Gohing's reaction when the latter found out that the Kapuso actor is sharing the spotlight with his ex-girlfriend, Lovi Poe again in Owe My Love.
Last night, April 5, Owe My Love introduced Rocco as its newest character, Doc Kenneth Paul. The Kapuso actor plays Doc Migs' rival for Sensen's love, threatening the brewing romance of Lovi Poe and Benjamin Alves's on-screen love team.
The Kapuso rom-com series is Rocco's reunion project with the two Kapuso stars and his first with Lovi since the two called it quits almost five years ago. Despite their interesting history, Rocco admitted that there were no awkward moments with his ex-girlfriend.
“It was a lot of fun lalo na I came in kasi in the middle of the show and they've all been together for almost three months. So 'yung rapport po nila parang pampamilya na eh. I was the one that had to make kapa, siguro 'yun 'yung term. Kinapa ko po lahat, kinausap ko po lahat. Marami po ako na first time ko po nakatrabaho. And with Ben and Lovi, our last show together was Beautiful Strangers, and we knew already how each other worked kaya it was just like continuing where we left off siguro.
“It was apparently easy. We all had a small talk, you know, just to get to know the characters, especially with me and Doc Migs, and me and Sensen kasi doon crucial 'yung mga lines ko. Ayun, malalaman ng mga Kapuso natin kung bakit magiging ngitngit na ngitngit si Doc Migs kay Dr. Kenneth.”
Working with Lovi again felt like a breeze for Rocco especially that he got Melissa's full support.
“Siya mismo 'yung nagsabi sa akin na 'Ituloy mo na 'yan' kasi magandang trabaho. Kinuwento ko sa kanya 'yung role and she was excited for me, sa totoo lang and I was really surprised. Nakita ko 'yung suporta na meron 'yung asawa ko para sa akin and it actually made me feel excited to work again, na 'Uy haharap ako ulit sa character' and nakita din niya na nagbabasa ako ng script and natutuwa siya. So it's nice to know that you have someone beside you, supporting you all the way. Iba 'yung assurance na nung kasal kayo so she doesn't have anything to be worried about because masaya na ang lahat eh. It's been how many years ago, and the fact that she doesn't have reservations with me working with an ex, napakalaking bagay po. And with that conversation that we had, tumaas talaga 'yung respect ko sa kanya.”
According to Rocco, his wife fully understands and accepts the nature of his job. And for this, he doesn't see any reason to pass up on other future roles or projects.
“Melissa knew me as an actor. Actually when we met, hindi niya ako kilala talaga eh kasi she doesn't watch TV. So when she found out about what I do and how my process was, getting into character, naintindihan naman niya. When it comes to work, it's work, and she really doesn't have a problem with me acting and accepting roles, and that's the nice thing about her kasi napaka-supportive niya eh. She really sees that I enjoy acting. I enjoy the challenges. So one time she was able to do an acting workshop, kaya mas lalo niyang naintindihan when it comes to roles talaga, that acting is just work and she doesn't have anything to worry about.
“So for future roles, I think it all comes down to being open and just sharing with your husband or wife kung ano 'yun mga ginagawa mo. Being open, that's the essential key talaga eh. Kapag may tinatago ka, talagang magkakaproblema. So throughout the years, I've always been a closed person. I've learned through Melissa to really open and start a conversation when there's something bothering you. So ayun, ang laki rin ng pinagbago ko and no regrets din na ginawa ko 'yun.”
Rocco and Melissa tied the knot via a military wedding on January 20, 2021. Take a look at the beautiful moments of their unique ceremony here:
