Maria Clara at Ibarra viewers watched characters from the hit fantasy portal series leave the show after passing away in the story. This included Sisa, played by Andrea Torres; and Elias, played by Rocco Nacino.
However, many fans got curious when they saw Rocco still taping for the hit series. Does this mean he is returning in the El Filibusterismo part of the program?
A few weeks ago, it was shown that Elias and Crisostomo Ibarra (Dennis Trillo) tried to escape the Guardia Civil after Crisostomo was broken out of prison. In the ensuing chase, he was shot and found by Fidel (David Licauco) and Klay (Barbie Forteza) badly wounded and about to die.
It turns out, however, that Elias survived and would be part of the revolution planned by Ibarra, in the guise of Simoun.
In an interview with "Chika Minute," Rocco revealed that his character is actually alive and will be returning in 'Maria Clara at Ibarra.'
"Surprise, mga Kapuso!" he said. “Nagbago lang ang itsura pero buhay na buhay pala."
According to the acttor, he and the creators have talked about his character's return long ago when series head writer, Suzette Doctolero, tweeted an article about a comment made by the author Jose Rizal about his regrets about killing off Elias.
Based on the article published on Manila Times in 1961, Rizal confided to his then-roommate, Gen. Jose Alejandrino, that he regretted killing off the fugitive instead of Ibarra, as his skills would be of better use in the revolution than the former's.
Meanwhile, Rocco reiterated that the series is not an exact re-telling of the two novels, Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, “Maraming nabago, maraming nag-iba ang daan ng kwento."
He then added about the coming episodes of Maria Clara at Ibarra, "Mas maaksyon ang part na 'to kasi medyo dark ang El Fili. Dito tayo sa set ngayon, puro big scenes tayo ngayon."
Aside from returning as Elias in the series, Rocco is also working on a new series titled The Missing Husband, where he will play a character named Anton.
