Kapuso dancer-actress and Mga Lihim ni Urduja star Rochelle Pangilinan may have started as part of the girl dance group The SexBomb Girls. But her journey from a dancer to an actress did not start there as she revealed that she used to compete in barangay contests before she was discovered.

In her interview on Updated with Nelson Canlas podcast, Rochelle said that she was still studying when she started competing in barangay contests, as well as contests on TV including Eat Bulaga.

“Ngayon na-meet ko doon sa Eat Bulaga si Ate Joy, Joy Cancio tapos binigyan niya ako ng calling card na 'kung gusto mo mag-training sa amin' ganiyan,” she recalled.

She added, “After two weeks nalaman ko 'yung pinsan ko pala dancer niya. Tapos sinasabihan niya ako na 'tara magpakilala ka kay Ate Joy, mabait to,' ganiyan ganiyan, tapos hanggang sa pumasok na ako kay Ate Joy.”

Rochelle said that it was Joy Cancio who trained her and got dance instructors to teach them before performing shows outside the network until they eventually became Eat Bulaga's house dancers as The SexBomb Girls after two to three years.

According to Rochelle, they had shows going from north to south and back, sometimes in a single day.

“As in magsho-show kami sa Laguna after ng Eat Bulaga live, wala pang Daisy Siete nun, magsho-show kami after ng Eat Bulaga bibiyahe kami, tapos Laguna, tapos Pampanga, tapos Bulacan, tapos babalik kami ng South,” she added.

Despite the tight schedule and the heavy workload, when asked if it was hard for her, Rochelle answered, “Sa totoo lang hindi. Na-enjoy ko siya e.”

Rochelle also said that she was not concerned much about her earnings since everything went to her parents.

“Lahat ng kinikita ko parang nauubos din agad. Una pinagawa ko 'yung bahay ni tatay. Pangalawa pinagawa ko 'yung bahay ni nanay, 'yung ganun. So invest lang ako nang invest sa kanila kasi 'yun ang pangarap kong gawin sa kanila,” she said.
