The honor is the first time Royce Cabrera has been recognized for his acting work.
Royce Cabrera continues to prove his mettle as an actor, this time by being awarded best supporting actor at the recent 2021 TAG Awards Chicago.
Royce was recognized for his work on the BL series B X J Forever, where he played the character of Roy, someone who brings complications to the relationship of the show's main characters, Ben and Jim. B X J Forever is a follow-up to Ben X Jim.
The TAG Awards Chicago is organized by the TAG Media Group, which highlights inspiring stories of Filipino and Filipino-American celebrities and influencers from different platforms like TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram. Winners for the award were determined by votes from Chicago's Filipino-American community.
Royce sent in a thank you speech to the award show, which TAG Media Chicago posted on its Facebook page.
In a separate interview here in the country, Royce emphasized that the award left him “truly honored.”
“I'm grateful for the recognition and appreciation of my work because I know all the other nominees were capable, if not more, of winning this award,” he said.
According to him, the award is such an honor, especially since he did not expect to win it at all.
“Best Supporting Actor is such an honor. I will make this an inspiration to motivate me to continually grow and thrive for the best,” he said.
He also recalled his time on B X J Forever and shared why he's proud of the series.
“Ben X Jim's story has touched many people's hearts, especially the LGBTQ+ community, which encourages their openness and freedom of identity despite the struggles they face in life,” he explained.
The award is certainly a boost to Royce to start this year right, and the only thing he wants now is something that everybody wants as well.
“With all the things that are happening right now, I'm looking forward to a very simple thing which I know everyone also looks forward to--- for this pandemic to end,” he said. “For things to go back to normal, the way they were before, or at least to adapt to the culture of the 'new normal' so all of us could again continue our own journeys and explore.”
