Ruru Madrid

Ruru Madrid is back on set, sharing details about his first day of shooting with Dennis Trillo for Hari ng Tondo.

Kapuso Primetime Action Hero Ruru Madrid expressed a deep sense of nostalgia during an exclusive interview with Chika Minute on 24 Oras following his first day of filming alongside Kapuso Drama King Dennis Trillo for their upcoming television series, Hari ng Tondo.

In the interview, Ruru shared his excitement about collaborating with Dennis once again, this time for a major television project.

He added that filming inside the abandoned Quezon City Jail has been a nostalgic experience, particularly because he is sharing the screen with Dennis, who recently filmed prison scenes for his 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival entry, Green Bones.

“Ito 'yung aming first taping day na magkasama kami ni Kuya Dennis for Hari ng Tondo. Unang eksena rin na magkakasama kami bilang si Gabriel at Egay,” Ruru said.

He continued: “I'm very excited kasi the last time na nakatrabaho ko si Kuya Dennis, sa kulungan din. It was for Green Bones and now nakakulong na rin ako, so parehas na. Abangan natin.”

Describing his new character as one of the darkest he has ever portrayed, Ruru said he draws inspiration from Dennis when it comes to balancing demanding television and film projects.

He also expressed his admiration for Dennis' work ethic, recalling how the veteran actor simultaneously filmed Green Bones and the Kapuso series Pulang Araw. Ruru admitted that he hopes to emulate the same level of dedication shown by his co-star.

“To be honest, biggest inspiration ko rin sa paggawa ng ganitong, you know, pelikula at may teleserye, si Kuya Dennis,” he said.

He added: “Kasi nga nung ginagawa namin 'yung Green Bones, sabay niyang ginagawa 'yung Green Bones at Pulang Araw during that time. So sabi ko, kung kaya ni Kuya Dennis, kaya ko rin 'yan.”

During the interview, Ruru also expressed his joy for his sister, Kapuso actress Rere Madrid, following her recent marriage to basketball player Kai Sotto.

“Noong una nakakagulat, but at the same time, sobrang na-happy ako dahil I would say parang first time ko nakita si Rere na ganon kasaya so bilang kuya, napakasarap din sa puso,” he shared.

Joining lead stars Ruru Madrid and Dennis Trillo in the stellar cast of Hari ng Tondo are Rocco Nacino, Ryza Cenon, Ysabel Ortega, Elle Villanueva, Arra San Agustin, and Heath Jornales.

The cast also includes veteran actors Gary Estrada, Victor Neri, and Nonie Buencamino, with a special appearance by Isko Moreno. The series is directed by Enzo Williams.
