Sailor Moon fans unite!
The latest movie in the Sailor Moon franchise is slated to stream on Netflix starting on June 3.
The two-part Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal: The Movie was first released in Japan in January and February of this year.
“As the new moon obscures the sun and gradually dims its light, Usagi and Chibi-Usa encounter Pegasus, who is in search of the chosen Maiden who can break the seal of the Golden Crystal,” the synopsis says.
“Meanwhile, a mysterious troupe called the Dead Moon Circus appears in town who's nefarious plan is to scatter the nightmare incarnations known as Lemures, seize the 'Legendary Silver Crystal,' rule over the moon and the earth, and eventually dominate the entire universe.”
Sailor Moon was first released in 1991 as a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Naoko Takeuchi.
Toei Animation adapted the series and released an anime television series in 1992, cementing Sailor Moon's place in Japanese pop culture.
Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal: The Movie is the fourth film in the Sailor Moon movie franchise.
The first film Sailor Moon R: The Movie was released in 1993 followed by Sailor Moon S: The Movie in 1994, and Sailor Moon SuperS: The Movie in 1995.
Adding the new Sailor Moon movie to its roster is in line with Netflix's goal to bolster its anime content this year.
Some of the upcoming anime series to be shown on Netflix include Eden, Godzilla Singular Point, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, Baki Hanma, Rilakkuma's Theme Park Adventure, and the classic Philippine horror-crime series Trese, among others.
