The music video begins with a live stream of Selena and Trevor singing along to their song.

Then as Selena walks around the house, she freezes and the camera rotates around her and zooms in on her skin, which transforms into a sweeping landscape.

Throughout the video, several landscapes and seascapes will be seen, along with parts of Selena's face “hidden” somewhere in the frame.

Then, towards the end of the video, the shot seemingly makes its way out of Selena's skin from an underwater shot, showing a tear flowing from her eye.

In an Instagram post, Selena revealed that the secret as to why the zooming in and out shots were so realistic was the Scan Truck.

Selena wrote in her caption, “Check out how we shot the Past Life music video while still social distancing.

“This thing is called the Scan Truck. I stepped into it on my own and it scanned my face up close, which is why the music video looks so real!

“Sometimes technology and art are the perfect match.”

The Scan Truck is a mobile 3D studio that has 200 cameras that capture images, which are used for 3D modeling.

It is a very popular 3D scanning 'spaceship' in Hollywood that has reportedly been used for films such as 'The Avenger's: Endgame', 'Venom,' and the upcoming 'Black Widow' movie.
