Sunkissed Lola

The modern OPM band Sunkissed Lola is making us fall in love again with “Edi Magalit Ka,” their newest EP and first release in more than a year since their last song.

While the title is a familiar Filipino phrase that may initially sound defensive or prideful, Sunkissed Lola gives it a softer meaning. They intentionally shaped the lyrics and melody to sound tender, open, and sincere, making the track an honest and refreshing chapter for the band as they approach their fifth anniversary.

“It's the comeback of SunKissed Lola,” vocalist Laura Lacbain said.

For vocalist and guitarist Alvin “Bino” Serito, the song also reflects the band's growth and newfound confidence in their sound. “We know our strengths and now we are able to maximize it,” he shared. “We are more intentional in releasing this song.”

That intention can be traced back to 2021, when the band first created the song. The original version leaned more toward an argumentative tone, but they eventually decided to soften its vibe and make it sound more mature and affectionate. At the same time, the title was kept intriguing enough to make listeners curious about the story behind it.

“Even if you're mad with your special someone, at the end of the day, they're still your favorite person to come home to,” Bino explained.

The band officially released “Edi Magalit Ka” on August 7, along with its official lyric video on the Sunkissed Lola YouTube channel. Staying true to their playful personality, the video features raw and uncut footage of the band performing the song inside a studio room. It also captures their bloopers as they exchange roles in certain parts of the track, giving fans a more candid look at the members behind the music.

The lyric video quickly drew playful reactions from listeners. “Na para bang trip to Jerusalem yarn hahahaha ang kyot nyo po sana may new album na next,” commented @eunicefernandez5695.

Meanwhile, @Arthur_Karel shared, “Sakto sinend ko to sa asawa ko gagalet sha ngaun,” showing just how easily the song can fit into the everyday experiences of couples.

The band has also found a playful way to promote the song while responding to its bashers. Laura recently posted a Reel on her personal Instagram account with the caption, “Stream Edi Magalit Ka.” The Reel features a behind-the-scenes clip from their recording session with embedded texts such as “anong ginagawa ng babae jan?”, “wala naman siyang ambag”, and “ano ba yan walang kwenta.” She then answered at the end with, “ako po yung kumakanta nung haaa…”

But beyond the jokes, the kilig, and the playful exchanges, “Edi Magalit Ka” carries a simple message about handling conflict in relationships. Through the song, Sunkissed Lola hopes listeners can reflect on the small misunderstandings that come with being in love and learn to work things out instead of letting pride get in the way.

For Bino, the heart of the song is ultimately about choosing love over ego. “No one has to win,” he said. “I will always choose the relationship over the argument.”

And with its familiar title taking on a much softer meaning, “Edi Magalit Ka” becomes more than just a comeback—it is Sunkissed Lola's reminder that even when two people disagree, love can still be the reason they choose each other in the end.

“Edi Magalit Ka” is available on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and other listening platforms.
