Early this year, The Clash alum Mirriam Manalo gave birth to Layla Elleina, a healthy baby girl who she fondly calls “#BabyClasher.”
Six months after giving birth, she openly confessed to the public that her only daughter was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), a genetic disease that affects the central nervous system and is characterized by weakness and wasting of muscles.
That's why during the press release of her song “Una Ka,” Mirriam shared that it was her daughter who served as her biggest inspiration for the song.
She said, “My daughter is already six months old pero hindi pa siya nakakadapa, kahit ano hindi siya nakakagalaw. Sobrang lambot niya. 'Pag binuhat mo siya parang lantang gulay siya.
“I'm still hoping pa rin na maging normal results ni Layla kasi hindi pa naman tapos 'yung mga test.
“Kung sakali man na hindi normal 'yung anak ko, matatanggap ko pa rin siya kasi Layla is my greatest gift.
“I will always be there for my daughter.”

On Tuesday, October 8, Layla Elleina passed away.
She was hospitalized at the Asian Hospital and Medical Center for two weeks due to pneumonia, which was an SMA complication.
Layla's hospitalization has left the family with a big hospital bill and funeral costs. For the past months, Mirriam has juggled the task of staying by her daughter's side and reporting to work to raise money for Layla's constant medication.
In line with this, Mirriam's friends and batchmates from The Clash have organized a benefit show entitled “The Clash for Layla” which will happen on October 21, 9 P.M. at Historia Boutique, Sgt. Esguerra, Quezon City.
The benefit concert will feature Anthony Rosaldo, Garrett Bolden, Jong Madaliday, Kyryll Ugdiman, Bryan Chong, Bradley Homes, Nina Espinosa, XOXO, and many more. Door charge is at PhP 500, inclusive of one drink.
GMA Network extends its deepest condolences to Mirriam Manalo and her family.
