The Comedic Constant In the Philippines, horror is not complete without its own touch of comedy. And for GMA-7’s suspense-filled ‘ESP’, that touch of comedy comes from the very deft hands of Patricia Ismael. Text by Jason John S. Lim. With Interviews by Xylen Geecel A. Punelas. Photos provided by the GMA Network. stars“Ako ‘yung comic relief,” Patricia Ismael says, introducing her character Anne as sidekick extraordinaire of Iza Calzado’s Cassandra. “‘Yung story kasi medyo dwelling na nga doon sa paranormal activities, sightings and all that. So siyempre, gusto naman namin na hindi matakot ‘yung mga tao. After telebabad na ‘to, eh! “So wee hours of the night na siya, dapat medyo mayroong light na inspirational na character. Ayan, that’s Anne,” Patricia jokes. But kidding aside, Patricia reveals that Anne actually idolizes Cassandra, although on the show, she seems to always be afraid of her formerly evil boss. “[And] as much as possible, lagi siyang nasa gilid ni Cassandra. “[Kasi] she handles everything,” the comedienne explains. Prior to Cassandra’s amnesia, Anne had been a mousy worker who hated her boss, but would do anything to keep her job. But now, Anne has evolved into something else: the only friend Cassandra has. starsEpisode after episode, the relationship of the two women keeps getting better. And yet according to the actress, the most notable thing about Anne is her infinite number of crushes. “Actually, may crush siya sa buong male population. Ganoon siya ka-desperate,” Patricia finishes with a laugh. On E.S.P., Anne is the only other character other than Iza’s to have appeared in every single episode. And Iza has nothing but good things to say about her co-star, and Patricia airs the same sentiments. “She’s very light to work with,” the comedienne says. “Engaging siyang kausap, tapos maraming variety ang conversations namin.” In fact, Patricia reveals that the two of them share the same love for rock and metal music! Bet you didn’t know that! ESP continues to air every Thursday night after GMA Telebabad. Talk about the show at the iGMA Forums! If you're not yet registered, take the time to register now!
