'The New Legends of Monkey,' a modern reimagining of a timeless tale, is airing this June 8 on GTV!
The New Legends of Monkey is a vibrant fantasy adventure series that reimagines the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West for a contemporary audience.
Set in a mythical world overrun by demons, the series follows a young woman who assumes the identity of the monk Tripitaka after her adoptive father is killed. She embarks on a perilous journey to awaken the Monkey King, a powerful god imprisoned for 500 years. Together with two other fallen gods, Pigsy and Sandy, they seek seven sacred scrolls to restore balance and peace to their land.
The cast includes Chai Hansen as Monkey, the legendary Monkey King, Luciane Buchanan as Tripitaka, the determined young monk. Josh Thomson as Pigsy, a god with a penchant for indulgence, and Emilie Cocquerel as Sandy, a fierce and loyal warrior goddess.
This Australian-New Zealand co-production, developed by See-Saw Films and Jump Film & TV, originally aired on ABC Me in Australia and TVNZ 2 in New Zealand.
