Iza Calzado tells iGMA just how much she’s enjoying her most current television role of Sofia, Joaquin Bordado's near-perfect wife.
Iza Calzado plays the confused and all-giving Sofia Apacible, the loving wife of Joaquin Bordado. And she tells iGMA just how much she’s enjoying her most current television role, and how it feels to be working with action superstar Robin Padilla! Text by Jason John S. Lim. Being Sofia, wife of Joaquin Bordado “Everything was normal and fine one day, then the next day, you wake up, ‘yung asawa mo nawawala. And then, biglang sa news, may pinatay na siya! He’s an assassin?! What?!” That was how Iza Calzado introduced her character Sofia to iGMA, and that’s exactly what happened in the program in its first week on air. But if Joaquin’s test to his faith is more physical, with fight scenes one right after the other, Sofia’s is more emotional. Iza shared, “my side of the story is actually a test of my love for my husband. “How much are you willing to give your husband? It’s pretty heavy.” The actress revealed that for this soap, she didn’t undergo any fight training -- but that didn’t mean that she wouldn’t be taking up arms in the show. “A lot of surprises are right there! [And] feeling ko, ipag-a-action ako right smack in the middle of it! So I don’t know. [But] I’m preparing myself for such surprises.” But so far, Iza said that she was loving her time away from action stunts. “But it’s super iyak, so ganoon din,” Iza adds with a laugh. But for Joaquin Bordado, Iza hoped that viewers would see her improvement, her maturity in acting. “In every soap naman that I do, I hope [that].” Being Iza, leading lady of Robin Padilla Joaquin Bordado is the second time Iza plays opposite co-star Robin. The two played neighbors in the digital movie, Blackout last year. And according to Iza, she already understood why Robin kept getting linked to his leading ladies. She added that Robin was “maalaga, maasikaso.” But it wasn’t just with her. “I don’t think it’s just for the leading ladies,” Iza explained that the action star was courteous to everyone, “but mainly siguro, dahil lagi niyang kasama [ang leading ladies niya], naco-call ‘yung attention. “I mean people would talk about how he treats his leading ladies, but I think it’s a general thing.” The actress pointed out, “I think he has a preconceived notion of how men are supposed to act around women, how they’re supposed to treat women.” Iza even shared the most common incident whenever she and Robin would be together. “Kasi mahilig akong tumayo, eh. Kasi ‘di ba, the whole time you’re waiting, nakaupo ka.” Iza revealed that Robin would always offer her a seat. “Pag inaalok ako ng upuan, parang [ilang]. Sila (the crew), sinasabi nila, ‘umupo ka, inaalok ka!’” “Pero pag pagod na talaga ako, umuupo na ako!” Iza laughed, before admitting that it’s nice being around Robin, “maalaga talaga.” Joaquin Bordado already began his journey to his destiny, catch up with him every weeknight after 24 Oras.
