Aljur Abrenica hasn't rested on his laurels. StarStruck's Ultimate Hunk is keeping busy not only as a teen idol but also as a budding comic.
StarStruck’s Ultimate Hunk, Aljur Abrenica, is quite busy these days. Tapped to play a substantial role in Mars Ravelos’ Dyesebel, he is also a regular guest in the longest running gag show of the country, Bubble Gang. Text by Loretta G. Ramirez, Interviews by Xylen A. Punelas, Photos by Connie M. Tungul Aljur Abrenica is definitely getting the big breaks since he won the StarStruck Ultimate Hunk title. Getting prime roles in Boys Nxt Door and Zaido, this young Pampangueño was able to hone his skills in acting via these big projects. After the successful run of these programs and seeing that he is diligently trying his best to improve, the network acknowledged his efforts by rewarding him with two regular shows – Mars Ravelos’ Dyesebel and Bubble Gang. Comedy, why not? Still trying to find his niche in show business, Aljur is now giving comedy a go. But unlike drama, he is finding comedy quite difficult to master. “'Yung [drama] ang nakasanayan ko e. Hindi ako ganoon kagaling magpatawa and ever since noong bata ako hindi ako nagpapatawa,” says this young hunk who unashamedly admits that he is finding comedy a big challenge. “Nakakapressure kasi 'di ba maraming makakapanood nito at saka Bubble Gang ito, sikat yan e! Magthi-thirteen years na at lahat sila magagaling 'di ba?” But Aljur did not allow this obstacle to make him give up on comedy. With dreams of making it big in the business, he has set his heart to do everything to attain his goal and master all aspects of the business. Advice from the expert Eager to please the viewers and be funny on screen, Aljur sought the advice of Ogie Alcasid, one of the pillars of Bubble Gang. “Tinatanong ko si Sir Ogie kung paano, ang sabi nya e, relax lang, okay naman daw 'yung ginagawa ko,” confirms the budding comedian. “Tapos ang sabi ni Sir Ogie ‘wag mong pilitin, just be natural, tapos magugulat ka na lang gagaling ka.’ ’Yung pulso daw ang importante, 'yung timing.” He further adds that the cast is very supportive and he is definitely enjoying his stint in the show. “Sobrang saya sila katrabaho kasi kahit umaga na, matatawa ka sa kanila. Kasi parang naguusap lang kayo then they come up with something, nag pu-punchline sila ng biglaan sa isang shot,” gushes Aljur who obviously is in awe with the wacky gang.
