Justine Lapid

Justine or Tin belongs to the Lapid showbiz clan and is the cousin of Kapuso star, Ysabel Ortega.

Justine Lapid grew up in a showbiz family. She is, after all, the daughter of action superstar Jess Lapid Jr.

Her grandfather is the late action great Jesus Lapid, popularly known as Jess Lapid Sr., who was discovered by no other than the King of Philippine Movies, Fernando Poe Jr.

Justine is also the niece of action star and incumbent senator, Lito Lapid.

That makes her related to Kapuso star, Ysabel Ortega, who is the daughter of Senator Lapid, and who will be starring in GMA-7's upcoming drama action series, Voltes V: Legacy.

With her pedigree, it's a wonder why Justine or Tin, as her loved ones call her, never followed in her dad's footsteps.

Instead, Justine pursued sports and found great success as a young athlete.

Justine is part of the women's volleyball team of the San Beda University, otherwise called the Lady Red Spikers, and plays in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

We chat with Justine to get to know her better and find out more about her showbiz background and her love for volleyball, and other interests on the side.

Influenced by dad

“Having an actor dad is inspiring because I can see that he's really hard working and passionate with what he's doing,” Justine said about her father.

“It's fun because whenever he has shootings or underwater directing and photography, me and my sisters will assist him. Bonding na rin at the same time.”

Discovering volleyball

“My father was the one who introduced sports in our family,” said Justine.

“We tried different sports like swimming, taekwondo, and scuba diving. Then when I was in high school, I was invited by my friends to play volleyball sa intramurals then I enrolled somewhere para magka-proper training,” she continued.

“Eventually nagustuhan ko na rin because of the challenges and learnings that I can apply not just to the sport itself but also in life.”

A fan like most of us

Justine is a big fan of another volleyball player. That player is Thailand's national volleyball team player, Chatchu-on Moksri.

What would she tell her in case she had the chance to talk to her idol?

“Even though we're the same age, I want to thank her for inspiring me to strive harder in playing.”

A fan of Gabbi Garcia

It's not surprising, of course, that Justine is a fan of her dad.

But she's also a big admirer of Kapuso star, Gabbi Garcia.

“I love her acting skills and beauty," said Justine.

Yes to showbiz

“My topmost priority is finishing my studies and being a professional volleyball player someday,” said Justine.

“But sometimes I'm thinking about joining showbiz rin,” she confessed.

So, she's fine with the thought of jumping into the entertainment business someday?

“If there will be an opportunity, of course!”

Any stars she would like to work with if that happens?

“Gabbi Garcia!” Justine replied.
