Kapuso star Tom Rodriguez recounts how his digital art illustrations enabled him to help out during the quarantine period and weighs in on whether anyone can become an artist.

'Love of My Life' star Tom Rodriguez may have stopped taping during the quarantine period, but it was still a very productive time for him, as he used it to practice his skill in digital art and use his artworks to help out during the pandemic.

In his recent Mars Pa More guesting with his girlfriend Kapuso celebrity Carla Abellana, Tom shared how art has kept him busy during much of the quarantine period.

According to Tom, it wasn't only therapeutic for him, but it also enabled him to participate in a meaningful and timely fundraising project.

“Naging daan ang artwork ko para makapagbigay ako ng tulong sa mga displaced daily wage earners natin through the 'Guhit Pantawid' program.

“Happy to say na marami pong natulungan yung programa na 'yon kaya nakakataba po ng puso.

“Isang malaking source of joy and inspiration po sa akin ang paggawa ng mga artwork.”

Aside from doing artworks for charity, Tom also took up art workshops and also led an online art workshop himself.

During his interview with Mars Camille and Iya, Tom revealed that he is mostly into portrait works and conceptual art.

And if you're like Mars Camille and Iya who confessed to only knowing how to draw stick figures, Tom had some really encouraging words to share.

“Stick figures talaga nag-uumpisa. If you saw it sa ginagawa ko, I really started with stick figures muna.

“You build from that. It's like making a building. You need your foundation; you need your steps.

“Actually, may artist na nagsabi before na 'Kids know how to draw automatically. We forget it when we're 10 years old.'

“We are all born with it. So, let them continue to draw and to explore that imaginative practice.”

So, if you're thinking about trying your hand at sketching or making digital art, go ahead and never doubt yourself. Like what Tom said, you have what you need inside of you. All you need to do is start and practice continuously.

If you want more inspiration, you can watch Tom do a digital sketch for Mars Pa More in the video above.
