Jala-jala Vice Mayor Jose B. Delos Santos succumbed to COVID-19 on March 31.

The unfortunate news was confirmed on the Facebook page of VMLP (Vice Mayors' League of the Philippines) Rizal Provincial Chapter.

The post read, “Nais ko lang pong ipagbigay alam sa inyo na si Vice Mayor Jose B. Delos Santos ng Jala-jala ay pumanaw na kaninang alas singko ng hapon (5pm) ayon po sa kanyang secretary Sir Gerald. Mag-alay po tayo ng munting panalangin para po sa kanyang kaluluwa at sa kanyang naiwang mahal sa buhay... maraming salamat po.”

His son, Jomark Delos Santos also took to Facebook the sad news to thank people for the sympathies and prayers their family has received.

An excerpt from his post read, “Maraming salamat po sa inyong pakikiramay. Napakasakit po sa aming buong pamilya ang biglaang pagkawala ng Ama ng ating bayan. Sa mama ko Edna Delos Santos, at aking dalawang kapatid na si Carla BCbyEC at Gloren Delos Santos Mndia, mga apo at magiging apo, kanyang mga kapatid at kamaganak, kaibigan at mga nakasama sa Jalajala at dito sa America.”

According to earlier news, the vice mayor fell ill after attending the Philippine Councilors League. He tested positive for COVID-19 on March 26.

Other government officials who are also afflicted by the new coronavirus include former Senator Bongbong Marcos, Senator Koko Pimentel, and Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Felimon Santos.
