Renowned vocal coach Cheryl Porter could not help but feel excited about learning a new language, and also in song from America's Got Talent (AGT) season 12 second placer Angelica Hale.
Angelica posted a video a few days ago on YouTube where she and Cheryl were shown in front of a laptop. The AGT star was teaching Cheryl Morissette's “Akin Ka Na Lang,” where after a few coaching on the pronunciation of words from the song, Cheryl was able to sing part of it, which excited her.
“Aaahhh!! I'm singing Filipino!” she said.
In the video, Angelica could not help but express how proud she is of the vocal coach for being able to pronounce the words well.
"Look at how well she said it," she posted the text on the video itself.
Cheryl then asked the young singer if she wanted to do harmony together and continued on to the coaching session. However, they hit a snagged pronouncing part of the song where Angelica had to ask her mom for help until she finally did it, which angelica acknowledged.
“You did it. It was hard, but you did it,” Angelica said.
Cheryl, meanwhile, asked Angelica to be her “Philippines coach” to which the singer replied, “I got you.”
However, at the end of “more hard work driven by strong ambition (plus a few more laughs)," according to Angelica, Cheryl was able to sing the song, pronouncing each lyric almost perfectly.
“I will make you proud. I'm gonna make the Filipinos proud of me. Just watch,” Cheryl said just before the video ends.
Meanwhile, comments of approval and requests to have the duo sing the full song were posted. Netizens expressed how proud they are already of Cheryl, and expressed how good a teacher Angelica is.
“Dang, she did good! You taught her well, young lady! And YES!!! A full cover with the two of you would be AWESOME!!!” One netizen commented.
“Yes, Miss Cheryl Porter! You've already made us proud! Angelica was such a great teacher! Full song, please!” another one commented.
“A full version of this would be amazing and I bet the two of you would be so accomplished afterwards too. Yall was having a blast practicing thank you Ladies, all of you,” another one said.
Cheryl discovered Angelica after the latter impressed the vocal coach with her AGT audition when she was nine years old. Cheryl made a reaction video of her audition where she expressed how much she loved Angelica's voice and confidence during the audition.
The two eventually met and did a carpool karaoke and worked on Angelica's vocal exercises. Cheryl then asked Angelica to sing her audition piece for AGT. In the video, Cheryl can be seen getting emotional especially near the end of the song.
