StarStruck Ultimate Female Survivors Jennylyn Mercado and Jackie Rice continue to prove that they are artists to reckon with as they vie for the title of Female Kontrabida of the Year at the Yahoo Celebrity Awards.
Jennylyn Mercado rose to fame as the first female survivor of GMA’s artista search and reality show StarStruck. She then portrayed roles from teen-oriented programs like Click and Joyride, to several drama series like La Vendetta and Encantadia.
Jennylyn went into a career hiatus upon giving birth to her son Alex Jazz. In her showbiz comeback, she became more unrelenting as she continued doing acting, singing and hosting projects.
Her most noteworthy kontrabida portrayal was in GMA’s recently-concluded psychological suspense TV series Rhodora X where she played the bizarre personalities of a woman suffering from Dissociative Identity Disorder.
She continues to appear in Sunday All Stars on GMA and Sarap with Family on GMA News TV.
Jackie Rice also jumpstarted her career after emerging as the Ultimate Female Survivor on the third season of StarStruck. She mostly appeared as a villain in GMA’s fantaseries like, Mars Ravelo’s Darna and Illumina.
Her most recent kontrabida portrayal is in Innamorata as Gina Dominguez, rival of the series’ lead character Esperanza for Edwin’s heart.
Jackie continues to appear in Bubble Gang. She also stars in an upcoming indie film Sitio Kamkam where she plays as the third wife of a gambling lord.
