For the first time, Philippines nabbed its first fencing gold as Filipino athlete Jylyn Nicanor reigned supreme in the women's individual sabre in the 30th Southeast Asian Games at the World Trade Center, Thursday, December 5.
Jylyn bested Indonesia's Diah Permatasari over a tight score of 15-14.
Jylyn's coach Edward Daliva said that her triumph is just the start of the great journey for Philippines's fencing team.
“Itong gold na ito nagsi-symbolize sa amin na start. Umpisa lang po ito para sa 'min,” Edward stressed.
The Philippines fencing team has now a 1-2-3 gold-silver-bronze tally heading into the last two days of competition.
