Derek Ramsay reveals his engagement plans for Ellen Adarna almost didn't push through.
Days after his surprise engagement proposal to Ellen Adarna, Kapuso actor Derek Ramsay shared how he prepared for the surprise leading up to the proposal.
He shared how Ellen isn't the type of girl to be fixated on the price of her engagement ring. During an online interview with G3 San Diego, Derek said, "Basta. It's not important. Price doesn't matter, because Ellen's not that type of girl,” he then laughed off questions about the engagement ring's carats.
Derek also mentioned how he refused to accept his mom's diamond ring because he wanted to purchase one for Ellen, "My mom was going to give me a 7.8 carat diamond ring to give to Ellen. I was like, 'Mom, I can't take that from you,'” he recalled, noting that the stone for him was “too big” for an engagement ring."
“I want to purchase this one. I purchased this diamond,” Ramsay added, referring to the pearl-shaped diamond ring he gave Ellen.
He also debunked rumors that the ring has been around for quite some time and was supposed to be a ring for his previous girlfriends. He said, "There's this chismis na pinagpasahan daw ito ng mga ex ko."
Derek also clarified rumors that he got the ring through an ex-deal, and that it was sponsored. The rumor circulated after netizens noticed Derek tagged the jewelers who created the engagement ring.
"I tagged them because the ring arrived on the day of the proposal.
He then went on to narrate how the ring arrived just in time for the proposal, and he almost postponed proposing in case the ring doesn't arrive in time for Ellen's birthday party. "A day before the proposal wala pa rin 'yung ring, because ECQ happened.
“The ring arrived on the day of the proposal. I canceled everything. I was just going to throw a surprise birthday party for Ellen,” he said.
Thankfully, the engagement ring arrived and was just as lovely as he wanted it to be. "It was perfect, it was how I imagined it," Derek said.
He added, "I tagged the people who made the ring because I'm appreciative, there's no ex-deal here...my God, ang cheap naman."
When asked if the ring was already paid in full, Derek revealed, "Fully paid. Yes, of course. This is me getting married, this is me proposing."
