GMA iQiyi

GMA and iQiyi will have more big announcements in the coming months.

The partnership between GMA Network and online streaming service iQiyi means that viewers will now have more avenues to watch their favorite Kapuso shows.

The multi-year agreement paved the way for GMA shows to join the roster of predominantly Asian content available on the streaming platform.

For only PHP 99 per month, subscribers can enjoy premium content and catch up on their favorite Kapuso shows anytime and anywhere via iQ.com or the iQiyi International app.

GMA's hit romantic-comedy series, First Yaya, got the ball rolling last week and at the moment there are 36 episodes readily available for iQiyi subscribers to watch.

This was followed by Agimat ng Agila starring Bong Revilla, Sanya Lopez, EA Guzman, Michelle Dee, and Elizabeth Oropesa, among others.

Both companies have openly expressed their desire to work closely together on various projects that will complement both platforms.

This begs the question: Is the Kapuso network planning to produce shows exclusively for iQiyi?

“Why not? There's a lot that we are discussing right now. Who knows, that might be one of them,” said Reena Garingan, adviser for content sales, syndication, partnerships, and distribution for GMA.

“There's a lot that we can do together. Sherwin [dela Cruz, country manager at iQiyi] and I said that as soon as we're done with this [partnership] announcement, we're moving forward to discussing something bigger.”

That possibility is strengthened by the fact that at present, iQiyi does not plan to work with other local content producers other than GMA.

“As I mentioned, as of today, we have announced that we will get 12 titles, all of them catch up, and that's just the bare minimum. It's only going to grow as we move forward,” Sherwin said.

“There's much more things that we want to do. One of them, like what you said, is co-production.

“There's so much more to do with GMA, there's so much more that we're planning to announce to you guys soon.”
