Aside from acting, Hearts on Ice actor Xian Lim has also expressed his passion for directing which he has already practiced before when he directed a music video and movies. Now that he will be starring in a primetime series, the Kapuso actor expressed his happiness at being able to share his directorial knowledge.
In his interview with Cata Tibayan on “Chika Minute” (24 Oras), Xian said he's happy that he's able to share his inputs with Hearts on Ice director Dominic Zapata regarding the series.
He recalled, “Parang meron eksena na, 'Direk, what if gusto mo dito medyo mahuhulog si Ashley tapos masasalo ko,' or something like that, 'yung mga ganung suggestion, he's very open.”
“He told us, right from the start, that he appreciated feedback,” he added.
In a previous interview on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, the Kapuso actor shared that his interest in directing came when he starred in the Cinemalaya film Two Funerals directed by Gil Portes in 2019 and became interested in the production of the movie behind the camera.
He recalled, “Then I keep on asking him, 'How does it work?' It's such a magic kasi…seeing the movie it's so magical. 'How does it work behind the camera?'”
Direk Gil then started teaching him basic camera angles, art direction, and other filming techniques. From there, he started studying film directing on his own and even joined the scriptwriting workshop of Filipino scriptwriter, Ricky Lee.
Aside from his inputs in directing, Xian has also worked hard in his acting for the first-ever figure skating series and trained hard to learn how to skate.
In a previous interview, the actor expressed how honored he is to be part of the series, but also aired his doubts if he can pull off the role as he had to learn ice skating from scratch.
“I wanted the challenge. I wanted something to prove myself. Ilalaan ko po talaga 'yung oras at hard work para po rito sa pagkakataon na ibinigay nila sa akin,” Xian said.
Despite how hard it is for the actor to learn how to skate, he compared it to life and how one needs to tackle the problem head on.
“Just like in life, and sa yelo din, there's no shortcuts. You have to fall, you have to learn, get back up on your feet, and do it over,” he added.
