The happy people behind Basta Every Day Happy's theme song

By MARY LOUISE LIGUNAS

Happiness could be found in the simplest of things, which could consequently inspire great work.

Such holds true for the people behind the show and the theme song of Basta Every Day Happy.

From shoe shopping to an LSS-worthy song

Who would’ve thought that the enjoyment drawn from being in the mall inspired the fun song that we hear all throughout a morning show? The song’s lyricist Yani Bautista shared that she wrote the words to the song while on a shopping run.

“Nung araw na tinext ako na kailangan ng lyrics, nasa [mall] ako, nagsusukat ng shoes. 'Yun yung isa sa mga little things na nagpapasaya sa’kin. Nagususkat lang ako ng sapatos tapos nag-type ako [ng lyrics] sa phone ko,” she recalled.

While writing, she considered both the simple and complex theme of the show, which is happiness. Other people might try too hard to attain it but to her, it’s a concept that boils down to perspective. Incidentally, hers is one that leans towards the brighter side.

“Yung lyrics na ‘smile ka lang parati’, 'yun 'yung pinaka-core, 'yung pinaka-premise ng program. Ang intention is to make the viewers happy. Puwedeng sad ka today [but] you can choose to be happy by watching the show,” she added.

Every day happy

Yani has a clear grasp of the show’s objective as she is more than just the lyricist of the show’s theme song. She is also one of its episode writers.

Even with long hours and full days at work, she acknowledges how important it is to keep her head up. “Halos araw-araw kasi, nandito ako sa GMA. I make sure I’m surrounded by people who make me happy,” she declared.

Being part of the show allowed her to be around people who had happiness thresholds as low as hers, and who constantly try to see the good in every day. They then decided to join a social media trend and read the same book.

“Dito sa team, nung nag-umpisa pa lang kami, napag-usapan namin na mag-participate dun sa 100 Happy Days, tapos pinili namin 'yung book na The Happiness Project. Naniniwala kasi kaming lahat sa team na happiness is a choice, so pwede mong trabahuhin 'yung pagiging happy,” she shared.

No need for alarm snoozes

One of Yani’s colleagues espouses the same beliefs. Margie Morrero, the show’s musical supervisor had to go through a lot in achieving the final theme song, but she chose to make the long process as enjoyable as possible.

Upon the news of the new show, she asked her friends to submit their proposals and ideas for a theme song. Several meetings, a call for lyrics, over four revisions, some mixes and dozens of decisions after, she and her team is able to produce a song that not only makes them proud, but also allows them to make other people sing and dance.

In fact, the Basta Every Day Happy theme song is Margie’s alarm. “Para pag gising ko, ang saya, happy agad. Kapag 'yung alarm mo maganda, masarap pakinggan, hindi ka maiinis. [You’ll feel good about] another day. Kapag masaya ang gising, masaya ang araw,” she said.

“Ikaw 'yung gumagawa ng happiness mo.”

Happiness could also be challenging, Margie admits. Aside from being the musical supervisor, she also functions as one of the show’s talent coordinators. Working on a production that airs daily is not the easiest task, but she knows that her mind set could change everything and define the quality of work that she delivers.

“Ikaw 'yung gumagawa ng happiness mo. Kung i-e-entertain mo 'yung mga negative thoughts or bad vibes, definitely, hindi ka magiging happy,” she expressed. For Margie, the simple pleasure of going home to her son and working with people she likes already sends her sky high.

“My son is the source of my happiness… at every day, tuwing may taping, tuwing ginagawa namin 'yung show, 'yung attitude namin, happy lang. Saka 'yung mga katrabaho ko, happy lang. Happy lang talaga,” she disclosed.

The show has been airing for only three weeks today but the response from the viewers, the energy of the studio audiences and the willingness of the guests have been nothing but positive. With faith and hard work, it doesn’t come as a surprise for two of the people working behind the camera because they share a work ethic and a world view.

“Kami, tulong tulong kami. Since may show tayo na ang objective ay magpasaya ng tao, kailangan mag-start sa ‘tin 'yun, so let’s choose to be happy,” Yani concluded.
