True to the Miss World thrust of beauty with a purpose, the twenty-six candidates of Miss World 2014 Philippines walked down the runway in designer gowns in a gala charity night yesterday, October 7 at the Solaire Resort Grand Ballroom.

Proceeds of the gathering will be given to the Philippine General Hospital, a state-owned hospital, and the Tuloy Foundation, an NGO which provides rehabilitation programs for marginalized children.

Miss World Philippines National Director Cory Quirino took pride in the humble beginnings of the pageant since she became its exclusive licensee in 2011. From a simple dream, it has become something the whole country can be proud of.

“We announced in 2011 and we promised (Miss World Organization Chairwoman) Ms. Julia Morley [that she should] watch out for the Philippines… And you know what? If you make a wish and you have such great faith in your heart and with God, your prayers are always answered… Our answered prayer is… Miss World 2013 Megan Young,” she said.

The stunning beauties from all over the Philippines sashayed gowns especially made for them by the Vatican Fashion Museum. Its lineup of designers include Arnold Galang, Dave Ocampo, Edwin Uy, Eric Delos Santos, Jontie Martinez, Nicky Martinez, Roland Lirio, Simon Ariel Vasquez, Ulysses King and Yako Reyes.

Aside from it being a fundraising event, the gala night was also a pre-pageant competition in which the winner would fast track her way into the top twelve of the coronation night on Sunday.

The judges for the Best in Fashion Runway were Miss World Philippines 2012 and Miss World 2012 semifinalist Quenerich Rehman, Prettylooks President and CEO Susan Ong Dela Fuente and the designer of the Miss World Philippines crown and CenterStage Academy Thailand Director Anurat Guang Kosakul.

The event was graced by Miss World 2013 Megan Young, former Ilocos Sur governor Chavit Singson, GMA Senior Vice President for Entertainment Lilybeth G. Rasonable and GMA Senior Program Manager for Entertainment TV Bang Arespacochaga, among others. The crowd was also serenaded by singer Isabella and Prince of R&B Kris Lawrence.

The Miss World 2014 Philippines coronation night will exclusively air in GMA on Sunday, October 12 at Sunday Night Box Office.
