Movin’ on Up

Billy Crawford already got what he wanted - seven of the best Filipino hip hop dancers to join him on stage. The final Movers have been revealed and now the real work is about to begin. Text by KC M. Abalos. Photos by Mitch S. Mauricio Billy’s Thoughts Billy was more than happy with the results of Move. He told us that he did not expect to receive so much support. He revealed. “It was a very surprising response that we got, you know? It became really successful. It was a last minute show.” With the talent that he and Maryss uncovered, it must have been hard not to root for anybody. But he was adamant about staying fair during the entire run of the contest. “I didn’t take any favorites from the beginning ‘coz it’s really hard. And, it’s 2,000 people! It’s hard being a judge and they’re gonna be part of my family now. So, I pretty much put everybody equally,” he said. He added, “too bad that I can’t take everyone coz that’s the worst part, getting rid of everybody.” The most important question now is what does Billy expect from the winners they chose? “I expect them to work harder. Now you know we have a little bit more time to prepare. It’s very, very hard to please everybody but they have to understand that this is also a job that they choose. So it’s going to be hard” he answered truthfully. The Movers The seven attested that they have learned a lot and are very grateful for the opportunity to showcase their talent. Darcy believed that it was an enriching experience and that he improved a lot. He said, “Sa attitude, marami, iyong pagpipigil ng galit, pasensya, madami natutunan.” For Mich, the lessons were more technical. “Hip-hop na traditional steps na ‘di ko pa alam. Ang dami ko pa palang dapat malaman.” Here is Daniel’s message to Billy. “Isa lang ang mapapromise ko kay Kuya Billy, hindi ko hahayaang mapahiya iyong pinili niyang dancers. Ibibigay namin lahat ng best para sa kanya, para maipagmalaki niya kami hindi lang dito sa Pilipinas, pati na rin sa ibang bansa.” “Parang lahat po ng pinaghirapan ko, lahat ng pagod nawala. Lahat po ng nakita nila sa akin, dadagdagan ko pa po. Para po maging proud po sila" was Jobel's promise. Sizzle added, “sobrang saya po. Hindi ko po talaga ma-explain. Gagawin ko talaga lahat ng makakaya ko.” AJ had this to say, “excited sa concert, iyon naman ang paghahandaan namin!" JM could not have put it any simpler, “I’ll do my best!” The newbies are bracing themselves for an entirely new experience. All roads now lead to Billy’s major concert on October.
