Marvin's Funny Side

Ang taas ng energy level nang makipag-chat si Marvin Agustin with fans all over the world last April 15. Syempre pa, he left his serious persona in "SRO Cinemaserye" behind and was his witty, wacky and charming self, na sobrang ikinasaya ng kanyang fans. Text by Erick Mataverde. Photos by Mitch S. Mauricio. "Maraming tanong sa SOP, sa amin nina Dennis [Trillo] at Gerald [Santos], that they really enjoy [our performances]. Pati si Paps na aking puppet sa Outrageous and Courageous, they enjoy watching that. Ngayon parang they see me as a comedian, dati kasi puro drama yung ginagawa ko," said Marvin Agustin in an interview after the chat. Does this mean that he intends to focus on comedy at this point? "Hindi naman. It's just that, siguro biglang nagkasunud-sunod lang yung sa SOP, tapos nabigyan ng Outrageous and Courageous, tapos yung Lalola, so I guess yung mga projects lang na dumating [kung saan kailangan ko mag-comedy]." With the apparent shift to less serious projects, he notes, "This is more me -- masaya, madaldal at maraming kalokohan. Actually hindi siya change, parang mas nag-expand [ang ginagawa ko]. Mas dumami ‘yung roles na pwede kong gawin at mga shows na pwede kong gawin." And true enough; one question posed by the fans is as follows: lara0822: I love watching you perform sa SOP with Gerard and Dennis, may concert ba kayo? marvinagustin: Oh yes, abangan niyo. Wala pang mga final date, final venue, wala pa ring sponsors. Wala pa rin kaming final audience kaya abangan niyo na lang muna 'yan ha? Kaya tinanong na namin siya kung totoo ba talaga na may plans siya, and Marvin replied, "Joke [‘yun] pero I hope magkatotoo -- half meant. Lahat naman ng jokes [ay] half meant." It seems medyo kino-consider niya talaga ang pagiging concert king. "Oh yes, total performer. Love of singing? Oo, but singing doesn't love me. [It] cannot love me back. I hope singing learns to love me!" Some of the other questions he answered during the chat were: kathleen06: How is it like working with Jolina Magdangal on Dear Friend? Who is your celebrity crush? marvinagustin: Jolina is my crush! Woah! I love her! jerrylyn: Hi Kuya Marvin, kamusta ka na? Tatanong ko po sana kung kamusta na yung career mo ngayon? marvinagustin: I'm very, very happy. I feel very blessed at napakaswerte ko dahil ang dami-dami kong trabaho, and not just work, but lahat ng work na ginagawa ko, gustung-gusto ko. Yung storya, yung cast, yung director and of course, working under GMA is the best experience that you could ever have. hamlet1497: Have you asked Jolina to go out on a friendly date lately? Kamusta na kayo? Sana magkabalikan kayo ni Jolens, bagay talaga kayo and I can see that you're both happy when you are together. marvinagustin: Yes, we are very happy, hamlet kaya nga gusto rin namin nagpapasaya kami ng mga tao through our work, through our shows. Kaya hamlet, panuorin mo yung Adik Sa'Yo. Kasama namin diyan sina Dennis Trillo at Jennica Garcia.
And during the game entitled "Burst Marvin's Bubble," Marvin had to pop balloons at sagutin ang isang ma-intrigang tanong or perform some of his famous dance moves which made him a hit in SOP. One of the questions was kung sino ang kanyang gustong paghigantihan, and Marvin jokingly answered, "Tamang-tama ‘yang question mo kasi habang papunta ako rito, may mga gusto akong paghigantihan. Gusto ko sanang paghigantihan si…Hindi, wala, wala naman ako ng gustong paghigantihan. Meron naman akong gustong pasalamatan, paghigantihihan ng kabutihan sa 'kin." He continued, "Ganon naman ako. I focus on positive things at mabubuting nagagawa sa akin ng mga tao.” Pagkatapos ng chat, and after giving all the chatters his own brand of flying kisses, Marvin also thanked his fans and supporters for his continued success in his projects: "Oh, thank you very much sa kanilang pagsuporta sa lahat ng shows dito sa GMA.
