Partial solar eclipse over Prague's famed castle awes locals and tourists

PRAGUE, Czech Republic - Hundreds of Czechs and tourists stood in awe as they watched the partial solar eclipse at a park overlooking Prague’s old town.

Watchers cheered and clapped as the partial solar eclipse reached its maximum at 8:15 PM local time–when the sun set just behind the famed Prague Castle and St. Vitus Cathedral.

Many watchers waited all afternoon at the viewing spot, Riegrovy Sady–a sprawling park frequented by visitors for its stunning sunset scenes.

While waiting, some watchers were seen doing crochet. Some others brought their pets. Those without eclipse glasses placed floppy disks or shades over their phone cameras to snap shots of the phenomenon.

This total solar eclipse was viewable throughout Greenland, Iceland, and Spain. In the Czech Republic, the Moon covered 86% of the sun.

The partial solar eclipse was the first in the Czech Republic since 1999. —LDF, GMA News
