Miggy Tanchanco recalls career leap from dancer to 'All-Out Sundays' director

By Beatrice Pinlac

Miggy Tanchanco revisited his career breakthroughs before landing the director's seat at the weekly Kapuso hangout show, All-Out Sundays.

“Nag-start ako sa GMA as [an] assistant choreographer ng mom ko, si Geleen Eugenio. That was in SOP. And then after noon, nakitaan ako ng potential ni Ms. Darlene de Jesus. She was the one who gave me a break na maging choreographer sa SOP,” he said in an exclusive interview with GMANetwork.com.

Before locking in as an SOP choreographer, Miggy first proved his dancing prowess when he debuted in the 90's dance group Universal Motion Dancers (UMD) along with Wowie De Guzman, Brian Furlow, Jim and James Salas, Gerard Faisan, Marco McKinley, Norman Santos, and Gerry Oliva.

“While I was doing my dance choreography work sa GMA, nag-aaral na ako ng film [at] hindi ko sinasabi sa lahat [pero] passion ko na talaga maging director,” he shared.

Miggy temporarily left the network to explore and develop his skills in directing, later finding his niche in helming music videos, concerts, and television shows. He worked with a variety of artists from other recording companies before pursuing his return to the Kapuso network.

“After five or six years, nag-apply ulit ako sa GMA to be a director…and then after one year, doon ako nakatanggap ng call. Binigyan ako ng break to direct Studio 7. Doon na nagsimula. Nag-direct na ako ng Studio 7 with Paolo Valenciano as the creative director. Tumagal siya ng almost two years…then after that, they gave me a break to direct All-Out Sundays,” he recalled.

The dancer-turned-director boasts of his team's unwavering pursuit to continue improving All-Out Sundays by actively integrating the requests and recommendations of its viewers.

“Ang nakikita ko every Sunday - new faces, different people, different concepts, and different approach. Pinapakinggan pa rin natin 'yong mga netizens na nanonood sa atin. Kung may mga requests sila, pinag-uusapan ng team para mabigay natin sa mga nanonood 'yong gusto nilang makita,” he said.

Miggy also shared that one of his proudest achievements as the director of All-Out Sundays is the show's leveled-up visuals. “'Yung mapagyayabang ko is our stage and light design. I'm proud that I have this strong team that's executing this. Maikli lang 'yung panahon namin para ma-rehearse lahat ng mga [production] numbers, pero dahil siguro sa teamwork namin, kahit maikli lang ang oras na 'yun, nabibigay pa rin namin 'yung kakaiba.”

All-Out Sundays is GMA Network's weekly noontime variety show, headlined by the biggest Kapuso stars Julie Anne San Jose, Rayver Cruz, Rita Daniela, Ken Chan, Chistian Bautista, and many others.
