“Hindi talaga 'ko kalalakihan
“Papa'no sasabihin 'to nahihiya ako sa 'yo
“Ngayong singkuwenta na ako.”
These words in the viral parody song of Michael V. unearthed the pressure many LGBTQIA+ members are experiencing in a conservative country like the Philippines.
Direk Bitoy's parody “Gusto Ko Nang Bumigay”, which has already surpassed more than 8.1 million views on Facebook, was a huge hit with the award-winning comedian showing off many costume change transitions in the music video.
But what touched the hearts of many people is the lyrics of the parody version of Morisette's “Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw”, which tackles the harsh realities of coming out.
Drag Race PH finalist Eva Le Queen reacted to the powerful lyrics of Bitoy's parody by tweeting, “Story of a gay man who wanted to come out late in life.
“The words 'hindi naman nagpabaya. Kung gusto kong magpabaya mas madali' hits too close to home. Thank you for this.”
Story of a gay man who wanted to come out late in life surely is a redemption from that old, problematic song 'Hindi ako Bakla'. The words 'hindi naman nagpabaya. Kung gusto kong magpabaya mas madali' hits too close to home. Thank you for this. 🥹 https://t.co/VJodA2zVn1

Another netizen, also echoed what Eva Le Queen stated saying, “The struggle.
“Michael V was impressive in his latest parody, not because of the laughter elicited but because of the painful lyrics of a person who wants to come out, but feels he can't. The performance, too!”

“Gusto Ko Nang Bumigay written and sung by Micheal V. may have created on the purpose of comedy but the meaning of the song is so powerful for all lgbtq members who were stuggling in finding and expressing their true identity.”

Michael V's “Gusto Ko Nang Bumigay” has unpacked a lot of issues and discussions around LGBTQIA+ communities, especially among closeted gay people who were forced to hide their identities because of judgmental societal norms. 1/2 https://t.co/5VKAO5Af5u

Meanwhile, netizens also continue to shower Bitoy with lots of praise for another masterpiece parody song.
Ang galing ni bitoy sa Gusto ko nang Bumigay parody niya hahaha. Pang drag talaga tooooo

gusto ko nang bumigay is the first parody song I've ever heard that doesn't make fun of queerness. Rather it tells a story which many people from this or the older generation can relate to.
