EXCLUSIVE: Kelley Day gears up for more mature role in 'Dahil Sa Pag-ibig'
Kapuso actress Kelley Day bids farewell to the bubbly, girl-next-door character she was always associated with as she gears up for a more grown-up role in the new series, Dahil Sa Pag-ibig.
During its media conference held last May 15, The 22-year-old actress admitted to GMANetwork.com that she's willing to push boundaries to help her progress as a talent in the network.
“Nagte-train and nagwo-workshop ako dito sa GMA for my acting.
“'Yun po 'yung focus ko talaga before I take on a bigger role kasi gusto kong maging mas prepared.”
In the drama series, Kelley plays the role of Alison, a flight attendant and the girlfriend of Gary Sandoval (Pancho Magno) who gets into a catfight with Mariel (Sanya Lopez) as she fights for her rightful place in his heart.
When asked how she prepared for some steamy scenes with her on-screen partner, Kelley quickly hid her face.
“Nahihiya nga po ako but I think it all boils down to professionalism.
“Well, I mean we spoke about it, Pancho and I. Siyempre, importante kasi 'yung love scenes namin kasi dapat ipakita na we're together for a long time kasi five years na kami dun sa story.
“So, we have to show na comfortable na kami sa isa't isa. And mas importante dun sa story 'yung mga love scenes namin kasi may mga mangyayari dun sa eksena.
“Our scenes are intimate but it's not dirty. It's passionate.”
She added, “Actually mas okay lang naman sa akin. Mas madali kasi walang lines at walang Tagalog.”
At one point, Kelley even praised Pancho Magno for making her comfortable on set.
“Alam niya na first time ko pa lang na magkaroon ng intense na role and he just keeps pushing me to do my best and helping me sa lines.
“And he's definitely making sure na I'm not uncomfortable especially sa mga love scenes namin.
“Naging comfortable naman ako sa kaniya.”
As for her catfight scenes with Sanya Lopez, the Filipino-British actress admitted being apologetic to her co-star before each take.
She said, “First time kong maging kontrabida. And in real life, I never shout or get angry kasi hindi ako ganun. So, I really had to step out of my comfort zone.
“So, before kami mag-e-eksena, I would be like, 'Ate Sanya, I'm sorry if mali 'yung lines ko and I'm also super nervous.' And she'd say, 'No it's okay, it's okay!'”
Will they have an on-screen slap fest?
Kelley laughed, “Wala pa kaming sampalan. Wala pa.
“But, let's see. Abangan ninyo kung may sampalan kami ni Sanya.”
