Betong Sumaya, excited to be Dingdong Dantes' sidekick in Genesis

After winning Survivor Philippines Celebrity Doubles Showdown in 2011, Albert 'Betong' Sumaya has found his niche is showbiz as one of the regular cast members of Bubble Gang. He was also cast in other Kapuso shows, but his latest project, the primetime series Genesis, is something the comedian is very grateful for.
We had the chance to chat with Betong during Bubble Gang's photoshoot for their upcoming 18th anniversary special, and when we asked him about Genesis, he still could not believe that he's a part of such a big production, not to mention working alongside Kapuso Primetime King Dingdong Dantes.
"Unang una nagpapasalamat po talaga ako sa GMA dahil first time ko po ito in my entire life na magkaroon ng teleserye. Ako iniisip ko pa rin eh, parang ibang experience ito. Para siyang apocalyptic themed na teleserye, mga gunaw-gunaw ng mundo," shares an excited Betong, na inaming medyo kinakabahan siya sa proyektong ito.
He went on and described his character, Tolits Dimagiba. "'Yung role ko po doon ay si Tolits. Magiging parang katuwang ni Sir Dong, parang ako po 'yung driver niya. Tuso ang aking character pero at the same time may puso na palaging ako ang nagpapaalala kay Isaak [Dingdong's character]. Ako 'yung palaging kasama niya sa mga journey niya. Abangan niyo na lang kung ano ang mgiging connection namin sa isa't isa."
What does he find challenging about his role?
"Ako po 'yung parang comic relief po doon kaya po napakalaking challenge po sa akin. Wala po akong kabatuhan doon na medyo nagpapatawa," he says.
Since it's his first time to work with Dingdong, Betong can't help but share what he has learned from the show's lead star. "Sobrang supportive! Kinakamusta ka niya kung okay ka lang ba, kumain ka na. May times kasi na nakabitin ako, may mga stunts, so aalalayan ka niya. Mararamdaman mo na iniisip niya ang kapakanan mo. Director din si Sir Dong kaya nagbibigay din siya ng mga tips sa mga dapat gawin. Basta, sobrang bait na tao!"
