By Bianca Geli

Filipino mixed martial arts athletes from all over the country are battling it out for ONE Warrior Series: Philippines.

The new GTV show follows the adventures of 16 MMA athletes as they are tested for skills.

The grand winner will be announced in the finale of the 12-episode show.

A ONE Championship contract worth $100,000 (an estimate of six million pesos) will be awarded to the winner. He will also be joining the legendary brotherhood of the Philippine martial arts group Team Lakay.

Team Lakay head coach Mark Sangiao promises that fans are in for an adventure as they are set to witness a coaching rivalry between ONE strawweight world champion Joshua Pacio and former ONE flyweight world champion Geje Eustaquio on ONE Warrior Series Philippines.

During the show's press conference at the Globe Tower, Sangiao said, “They (Pacio and Eustaquio) had to strategize when someone is losing and what they can do to help their athletes. You would see their drive to win but at the same time, see how composed they are in winning and losing.”

Sangiao also has high hopes for Filipino athletes and wishes ONE Warrior Series PH can inspire local athletes to pursue their dreams.

"(It is) Extremely helpful. OWS opens the door of opportunity for our promising athletes and champions, it opens the door to an illustrious career and life-changing opportunities," he said.

"Apart from that, OWS also shows the harsh reality of being an MMA athlete -- that it's not easy, it's not just a test of physical strength and endurance but a supreme test of character, spirit, and of how far you can go and do to fight for your dream."

“This is a must-watch because there is a lot to learn here. For athletes, they would see how MMA athletes would train to represent the Philippines on the international stage and what they go through. For those who are not athletes, they would see the character and ways of a person trying to achieve their goals in life and career, ” Sangiao concluded.

ONE Warrior Series: Philippines is a reality TV show on GTV every Sunday at 9:35 p.m. The series follows the journey of 16 aspiring mixed martial artists who traveled to Baguio City for intense training at the renowned Team Lakay gym where they are coached by Sangiao, Pacio, and Eustaquio.
