By Aedrianne Acar

Alyssa Valdez, one of the most prominent names in Philippine volleyball, posted on Facebook a heartfelt appreciation to Roger Gorayeb, the multi-titled head coach of the San Sebastian College-Recoletos.

Alyssa, who had the great opportunity to be trained by the legendary tactician during her college years, posted a selfie with her former coach and wrote in the captions, “one of the coaches who took a chance on me”

Coach Roger served as the head coach of the Ateneo Lady Eagles volleyball squad. In his five years with the Katipunan-based school, he transformed the women's team into one of the top volleyball squads in the country, and helped the Lady Eagles clinch a berth in the Finals in UAAP Season 74 and Season 75. He stepped down as the head coach of the ADMU women's volleyball team in 2013.

Currently, Coach Roger's squad has yet to secure a win in the NCAA Season 98 Women's Volleyball tournament with the Lady Stags losing six consecutive games.

Still, the popular and highly-respected volleyball coach in the NCAA has been winning the hearts of netizens with his funny videos during SSC-R time huddles.

In fact, Roger Gorayeb's timeout video during their game against Colegio de San Juan Letran on March 3, wherein he said to his players, “'Yung mga palo n'yo humihilik [makes snoring sound]. Ang bagal, e!”, has gotten over one million views on Facebook.
