Singer-actor and director Raymond Lauchengco has always loved working with his hands during his spare time. During the quarantine period, he finally had the time to explore this special skill of his by repurposing old wood into stunning art pieces.
In an episode of 'Mars Pa More,' the 'So It's You' and 'Farewell' singer showcased some of his exquisite wooden sculptures.
According to Raymond, this simple hobby of his has already turned into something way bigger than he had expected.
Like many, he suddenly found himself having a lot of time in his hands during the quarantine period and decided that it's the perfect time for him to create beautiful art from repurposed wood.
He said that rekindling his love for making wooden art pieces during the lockdown helped keep his mind off some of the heavy stuff that he and his family had to go through.
So far, Raymond has created 30 art pieces and part of the sales are donated to displaced events workers.
Take a look at some of his impressive wooden art creations in this photo gallery.
Raymond is one of the celebrities who have turned the lockdown period into a very productive time by creating wooden art pieces that are both beautiful and eco-friendly.
This piece of wood used to be submerged in his friend's fishpond.
Raymond placed LED lights at the back of the wood so that at night when the light is turned on, it'll give the wood a nice aura or glow.
Raymond created this lamp by putting an Edison light bulb on a branch of a preserved driftwood.
You might be wondering how he placed the wires inside the wood. Raymond revealed that he actually split the wood open so he could put the wires inside.
This beautiful art piece has a dragonfly resting on the wood. Raymond used epoxy clay to create the dragonfly. Initially, the epoxy clay can be easily molded into your desired shape and then it eventually turns rock solid.
Another gorgeous wood art that Raymond made is this ostrich egg sitting on a driftwood embellished with gold foil.
Raymond did the carvings on the ostrich egg himself.
This wood creation by Raymond is inspired by a mermaid or fish tail.
He painted the wood silver and adorned it with pieces of broken glass bottles.
Raymond's favorite among his wood creations is this table, which is the first one he has ever made.
The wood he used for this table has been in possession of his mom since the 1960s. He painted it silver and distressed the paint. He then made a cut on the wood using a grinder and inserted the glass. Despite not having screws or adhesive to keep the glass in place, the table is actually pretty stable.
Raymond loved his first table so much that he's planning to do a another one using a bigger driftwood.
This wooden house made of 5,000 popsicle sticks is one of Raymond's earlier creations. He made it for his daughter who requested him to build a home for her pet hamsters.
Raymond also built this 4-storey mini-condominium for his daughter's dolls.
The doll condominium is about as tall as Raymond and has an electric elevator, sliding doors, and 357 light bulbs in it.
Congratulations, Raymond, on finally being able to pursue your love for creating awesome wooden art pieces. Hope you create more, so you could also help more displaced events workers. You can watch Raymond's full 'Mars Pa More' guest appearance here.
