Rocco Nacino gives plant care tips for newbie plantitos and plantitas

'Descendants of the Sun' star Rocco Nacino is not just an actor, entrepreneur, and fitness buff; he's also an experienced and knowledgeable plantito that many can take inspiration from.

Rocco gives tips for newbie plant parents

For those who don't know yet, Rocco co-owns All About Plants PH with her girlfriend Melissa Gohing.

And in a recent Mars Pa More episode, Rocco shared his know-how in raising plant babies with hosts Iya Villania and Camille Prats.

For newbie plantitos and plantitas, Rocco recommends three plants that are easy to take care of: The Snake Plant, the Money Tree, and the Peace Lily.

As for Rocco's advice for beginners, his first plantito tip is to not overwater your plants. He debunked the misconception that watering plants often and letting them get as much sunlight as possible is the best way to care for them.

“May misconception tayo na basta 'pag halaman 'yan kailangan niya ng tubig, kailangan niya ng sunlight. So, papaarawan mo tapos papa-swimming mo na lang sa tubig, 'di ba? Damin ganun. Ano'ng ending? Mamamatay.

“So, ang natutunan ko dito, mas okay ang underwater kaysa overwatering.”

Rocco also revealed that you can also actually sort of interact with plants and that they actually tell you when they're in need of water.

“Minsan sinasabi rin nila sa'yo kapag kailangan nila ng tubig. Like itong Peace Lily, madali siyang alagaan. Pero once na kailangan niya ng tubig, usually yung leaves niya gumaganun, bumabagsak.

“So, bababa 'yung mga leaves niyan tsaka flower. Uhaw na 'yan. Tapos kapag na-water mo na, 'yan magbbloom ulit 'yan.”

The Kapuso hunk also taught Iya and Camille the proper way to water plants. According to Rocco, one should continue pouring water into the plant until water starts dripping at the bottom of the pot.

“'Pag tumutulo na 'yan, nakaikot na 'yung tubig around the roots, the soil, nakakapagbigay ng nutrients.”
