Victor Basa on his first gay role: “I don’t want to alienate anybody”

Behind his chiseled physique and swoon-worthy looks lies a talented actor breaking out of his shell. Known for his work in modeling and a few television appearances, Victor Basa is now ready to push himself to the limits as he plays his first gay role as David in My Husband’s Lover.

At the pictorial for the much-anticipated Primetime series, GMANetwork.com sat down with the Kapuso actor for an exclusive interview.

The model-actor expounded about his controversial role. He shared, “I play a chef and I’m the ex-lover of Vincent (Tom Rodriguez). Even though ex-lover ako ni Vincent, we were able to stay friends. I’m the guy he asks advice from. Well, kasi Vincent’s not yet out, so I help him with his issues. At the same time, sinusubukan ko siyang ipa-out kasi alam ko na ‘nung nag-out ako, mas sumaya ‘yung buhay ko.”

We also asked Victor how his girlfriend, model-socialite, Divine Lee reacted upon finding out about his newest role. He replied, “Sabi ni Divine, ‘Good!’; ako naman, yung reaction ko, as much as you can, you don’t wanna stereotype it, kasi there’s a tendency na ‘pag for TV, kailangan mo mag-over act ng kaunti, pero ayokong ma-caricaturize si David. Siyempre, mayroong iba’t ibang type ng gays and I don’t want to alienate anybody.”

Victor explained that he was not immediately casted for the role. He revealed, “I had an audition-slash-screen test. I guess they liked what I did, so swerte!”

Being given the challenging task of portraying David drives Victor more to give his 100 percent all the time. Things are looking up for the scorching hot actor, who is more than thankful for this opportunity. He shared, “I’m pretty excited and I’m very, very grateful. I guess they saw na parang I have something to offer. I’m happy with GMA’s plans for me.”
