Phytos Ramirez finds his paradise in showbiz

Phytos Ramirez is one of television’s freshest faces. The Kapuso cutie has got girls swooning over his bedimpled smile. GMANetwork.com got up close and personal with the Paraiso Ko’y Ikaw star who shared about his ups and downs in the industry he now considers home.
Phytos started doing commercials when he was five years old. From Cyprus, his family migrated to the Philippines. He started doing auditions and VTRs and appeared in a talent search. As a kid, he appeared in movies like Abakada…Ina, Tatarin and The Promise.
He took a temporary hiatus from showbiz to focus on his studies. After high school, he returned to showbiz and appeared in several TV dramas including the GMA Telebabad series, Basahang Ginto.
Everything was going smoothly for Phytos’ budding showbiz career, but he came face-to-face with an obstacle: he had gained weight.
He shared, “Nasaktan ako kasi nandito na eh, may shows na ako. So nag-college ako for around 2 years. I took up Tourism in CEU pero hinahanap-hanap ko po ang showbiz. Nameet ko po ang manager ko na si Tita Becky Aguila. Sila po ng mom ko ang nag-push sa akin magpapayat.”
Because of his dedication and drive to return to showbiz, Phytos went from 220 pounds to a fit and lean 175 pounds. How did he get back in shape?
“Nagcro-cross fit ako. ‘Yun ‘yung pinaka sport ko hanggang ngayon. Nagstop ako sa basketball. Para siyang circuit training na sobrang intense. Within four months, I lost 45 pounds,” he said.
He continued, “Grabe din ‘yung diet ko. Chicken and egg lang and for the whole day na ‘yun. May vegetables din sa diet pero bawal akong mag-fruits kasi may sugar ‘yun.”
Looking better than ever, Phytos was given a second chance to achieve his dream of becoming an actor. GMA gave him screen tests for Adarna, Kambal Sirena and Paraiso Ko’y Ikaw. He went on to clinch a leading role in Paraiso Ko’y Ikaw, his biggest role to date .
How did he react when he found out that he got the part?
“Tinawagan po ako ng manager ko at sinabi na nakuha ko ‘yung role. Sabi ko, wow totoo ba ‘to? Tapos napasigaw ako sa bahay. Sabi ko sa sarili ko, kailangan ko pang mas mag gym kasi nandito na ako. Magsisikap ako para maging successful sa showbiz,” said Phytos.
