GMA Network announced last week that highly respected Kapuso comedian and director Michael V. will be directing Pepito Manaloto: Tuloy Ang Kuwento after veteran television director Bert de Leon passed away in November 2021.
Three years ago, we witnessed Bitoy's creative power when he co-produced, wrote, acted, and directed the movie Family History, a project between GMA Pictures and Mic Test Entertainment.
Looking back, Direk Michael told GMANetwork.com that he learned a lot from Family History and wanted to apply those lessons to make the new chapter of the sitcom a whole lot better.
He stated, “Actually, ang mga nakita ko technical aspect, na maaari ka na mag-produce ng film-like quality, cinematic quality using smaller equipment.
“Kaya 'yun 'yung in-apply namin dito sa show. Kasi since nagsimula 'yung pandemic, nagiging problema 'yung number of people involved sa show. Palaging may restrictions, so with the use of a smaller but better equipment, nag-capitalize kami doon.”
Michael then added, “And dami namin na-eliminate na problema. So right now, mas hindi kami nakaka-encounter ng problems, restriction wise, dahil sa mga bagong learnings na 'yun.”
During the online media conference with the cast of Pepito Manaloto held on Tuesday, June 7, he shared to entertainment writer Jerry Donato that he had already directed the flagship sitcom before.
Direk Bitoy recalled, “I will let you in with a secret: hindi ko first-time nag-direk for Pepito Manaloto. There was a time [laughs] nag-abroad kami, nag-US kami at doon kami nag-taping. Nagkaroon ng problema, so hindi kaagad nakarating sa States sina Direk and some of the staff and crew.
“We had to do something about it. Si Miss Bang ang nag-spearhead na niyan. Sinabi niya nga, 'Kailangan na mag-shoot tayo. So ano'ng puwede gawin?'”
“Nag-brainstorm kami mismo sa US and we found ways para matuloy 'yung taping namin and I was the designated director back then.”
What should viewers watch for in Book 3 of Pepito Manaloto?
“There were some changes, kasi nga naiba 'yung format. You'll find out when you see the pilot at saka 'yung succeeding episodes ng Tuloy Ang Kuwento. Meron kaming iniba nang konti and it will be very evident at magiging malinaw 'yan sa inyo as soon as you watch it.” Michael V. said.
The fun never stops, mga Kapuso! Don't miss Pepito Manaloto: Tuloy Ang Kuwento on June 11, right after 24 Oras Weekend.
