Kakie Pangilinan takes responsibility for tweets, apologizes for retweeting list of names linked to Dacera's death

Kakie Pangilinan took to Twitter to apologize for "helping spread misinformation" following her tweets on Christine Dacera.

"Before I sleep I’d just like to reiterate how absolutely sorry I am for helping to spread misinformation," she began.

"The authorities’ statements were misleading and confusing (and still are) so I hope you can understand," she continued.

Still, Kakie stressed that "rape will never be okay."

While she did read the articles before tweeting, the outspoken daughter of Sharon Cuneta and Sen. Kiko Pangilinan acknowledged how she "should have waited, knowing how the authorities function nowadays."

"It’s sick and sad, I’m really, really sorry," she wrote.

Kakie admitted that she "got caught up in the outrage" and promised to do better, beginning with deleting "all of the misleading tweets."

"I stand by everything I said re: respecting girls, and I hope Christine still gets the justice she deserves. It’s still a heartbreaking and gut-wrenching way to start the year. i’m just really sorry."

Shortly after news broke about the rape-slay of 23-year-old flight attendant Christine Dacera on Monday, the hashtag #ProtectDrunkGirls trended on Twitter.

Kakie did not agree with the trending hashtag and said "It should be respect tf out of any human being because drunk girls shouldn’t be needing any more protection than drunk guys."

While she's already apologized for retweeting a list of the persons being linked to Dacera's death, and has deleted the said tweet following her apology, Kakie stands by her opinion that "respect is better than protection, and rape is and always will be terrible."

Further investigation is ongoing on the death of Dacera, 23, who was found lifeless inside a room in City Garden Grand Hotel past noon on January 1, 2021.

Three persons being linked to her death were arrested but were later released after the Makati City Prosecutor's Office said the pieces of evidence initially submitted by the police were insufficient in establishing that Dacera was raped.

The evidence were also not enough to prove the exact cause of Dacera's death, whether this was because of the alleged rape, and, if so, whether the respondents were responsible, the prosecutor said.

According to the family's lawyer Jose Ledda III, the family of Christine Dacera is asking for more CCTV footage that could shed light on her death.
