Shamcey Supsup on bisexual Miss Universe PHL bet: 'We're happy they feel they could be themselves in the pageant'

The Miss Universe Philippines Organization is happy to know that contestants feel they could "be themselves" during the pageant.

This is what national director Shamcey Supsup said when asked to weigh in on recent reports of Cavite bet Kimberly "Billie" Hakenson admitting she was bisexual.

"For us, when we started Miss Universe Philippines, we made this learning journey program to really help the girls through their journey in Miss Universe Philippines, to showcase their personalities or character, and the very or the main point that we wanted to really bring out from the girls would be their authentic selves," Shamcey told GMA News Online over Zoom.

"We’re happy that they feel that they could just be themselves in the pageant," she added.

The Miss Universe Philippines head, who is a former beauty queen herself, also said contestants were not encouraged to hide behind a "stereotype."

"We don't want them to hide who they are, to become stereotypes, na parang 'Kailangan para maging beauty queen ako, kailangan ganito lang ako,' or 'I cannot talk about controversial things," Shamcey said.

"And so I applaud the girls na they're not afraid to show their authentic selves so, kami naman, we embrace that," she added.

Cavite bet Kimberly 'Billie' Hakenson proudly announced she was bisexual in a recent closed door interview.

In a YouTube video uploaded Monday, the short-haired beauty was shown saying: "I'm Billie Hakenson, representing Cavite and I'm a bixesual and I'm proud to be here." — LA, GMA News
