‘Cobibe,’ the duck saved from becoming balut, is now a month old

Do you remember the lucky duckling who hatched from his egg before being turned into balut?

In a "24 Oras" report on Monday, GMA News' Oscar Oida checked in with "Cobibe" who is now celebrating a month of life.

The duckling was safe in the arms of his now-owner Maria Corina Enriquez Venturanza, who has been taking care of Cobibe as a pet in their farm in Mindoro while in lockdown.

Cobibe, which has visibly grown in size, now has his very own bed, bath and a "swing" in the form of Aling Maria's feet.

"Buhay ito eh, alanganaman itapon mo. Pag pinabayaaan mo, mamamatay," she shared.

Like thousands of netizens who were amused by their story, Aling Maria is very glad that she did not end up cooking Cobibe as an egg.

The small animal apparently has helped her feel better, whenever she feels anxious over the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) situation in the country.

"Kung wala ito, siguro nakakapraning eh. Talagang ang feeling ko every time na lumabas ako, nagkakaroon ako ng anxiety. Pero once na nakasama mo na to, nawawala 'yung anxiety," the woman said. — Margaret Claire Layug/LA, GMA News
