Help pours in for sapatero who lives in pedicab with two dogs

The “sapatero” or shoe repairman who lived in his pedicab received an outpouring of support after his story was featured on “24 Oras.”

Earlier today, GMA-7 reporter Mariz Umali visited Kimo Ranes, 43, along P. Noval in Manila to hand over to him cash given by unnamed donors.

“Nahihiya po ako, naabala na po kayo,” he said in between tears. “Hindi po ako makapaniwala eh.”

Ranes said the money would help him find a more suitable dwelling place so he would not have to live in his pedicab anymore.

Apart from cash donations, Ranes received food, essential items, pet supplies for his two dogs, and a job offer at a shoe factory from a business owner in Marikina City.

The Cebu Police Provincial Office also offered to provide him the means to go home in Iligan.

Oranes expressed his gratitude to his generous supporters. “Maraming salamat po, itong, malaking bagay po, para sa akin po, dalhin ko po ito sa maganda po,” he said. – RC, GMA News
