Doctor who caught COVID-19 comforts her patient: 'Walang may kasalanan nito'

A doctor who got infected with COVID-19 offered some words of comfort to a patient who felt guilty for exposing her to the virus.

In a report on "24 Oras," Dr. Cynthia Basco narrated her unforgettable experience as a frontliner battling the pandemic.

The 55-year-old resident internist at the Baliuag District Hospital in Bulacan said she had to inform a patient that she would be gone as she was also starting to show symptoms.

"Tapos umiyak siya, sabi niya kasalanan daw niya. Sabi ko, 'Hindi, walang may kasalanan nito,'" she said, and then expressed hope that they would both recover from the disease.

Basco became patient no. 3909 and had to be on quarantine for nearly two months. At one point, she found it difficult to breathe and began to think that she might not be able to go back to work.

"Nag-video call ako dun sa husband ko. Sabi ko baka hindi na ako gagaling," she said.

When she finally recovered, however, the doctor did not hesitate to return to her sworn duty, which she has been doing for nearly three decades.

"Lakasan lang din ng loob, iniisip mo dapat may maitulong ka sa mga pasyente," she said. —MGP, GMA News
