Benjamin Alves plays the dreamy leading man in GMA’s new romantic comedy “Owe My Love,” but to whom exactly does the actor feel like he “owes” some love?

“Siguro, my mom,” Ben admitted during a recent Zoom conference for the show.

“Especially now because I haven’t seen her for going to two years na, so I really do owe her my love and my time,” he explained.

The award-winning actor who starred in films like “Heneral Luna,” “Goyo,” and “Sana Dati,” said his mom remained one of his main inspirations to this day.

“I think a lot of my love language comes from her words, and being able to give your time and service. Nanggagaling kay mommy ’yun, so I think yeah I ‘owe my love’ to my mom,” he said.

Ben, whose father passed away in 2018, grew up in Guam before coming to the Philippines to pursue acting.

He stars alongside Lovi Poe in “Owe My Love,” a timely show about the value of true love.

The story follows a young woman named Pacencia “Sensen” Guipit (Lovi) and Dr. Miguel “Migs” Alcancia (Ben) whose lives intertwine in a world of debt, near-death, and dogged dedication to family.

“I think the concept that we have, even back in 2020, is very timely, because one of our goals is to teach ’yung mga Kapuso natin about financial literacy,” Benjamin told GMA News Online.

“And also, because it’s a romantic comedy, we also have a chance to start 2021 on a lighter note... it’s a chance for us to laugh, a chance for us to get back to some normalcy, so along with the other content of GMA na we’re bringing out, it’s nice to be able to offer something new, and offer a lighter side of, ayun nga, ’yung nangyayari sa ’tin [amid the pandemic],” he added.

“Owe My Love” premieres on GMA Telebabad the day after Valentine’s, on Feb. 15. – RC, GMA News
